Roller shutters act as an additional barrier to sound waves. They are designed to fit snugly into the window or door frame, creating a barrier that significantly reduces the amount of noise that can enter the room.

Roller shutters will block out light to help with sleeping and also reduce noise.

Noise reduction roller shutters will drastically reduce the noise levels through the shutter but cannot eliminate sounds entering your home or office in other ways.

Independent laboratory tests on roller shutters have demonstrated that roller shutters can reduce noise transmission through a window opening.  The noise reduction benefits obtained in university tests varied significantly depending on the frequency of the noise source. For low frequencies between 100Hz and 1250Hz the sound transmission loss was improved by 3-10 decibels.  At higher frequencies (>1250Hz0 the improvement in sound transmission lass with the roller shutter curtain down was typically greater than 10 decibels.
